Our project is to create a sensory area where students can jump, step, hop, and touch everything in the area. This area can be used as a calm down area for some students who are frustrated or angry. It can also be a relaxing and peaceful area for students with anxiety. We want to make this Sensory Area to benefit the whole school. At our school, the students are not allowed to touch the walls because they are covered with student projects most of the time. We are unique in that we have three Exhibition Nights during the year where the entire school is filled with informational and creative student-created projects. Our STEAM project this year for 1st Grade is to create this sensory area so there is one area that can and should be touched and experienced.
