These materials will help my students not only academically but also socially as many of the books apply to social emotional learning, and help with self esteem. A classroom library should be full of fiction stories that contain diverse characters that reflect the student population. I want my students to feel as though they can connect to stories that we read. Furthermore, including nonfiction texts that correlate with our science and history unit will guide learning academically, as teaching through literature, such as picture books will assist in content comprehension.
