I strongly encourage reading in my classroom. I want my students to develop a love for reading and find enjoyment of being taken to another place when they read. Most third graders see reading as a chore or job they have to do. I intend to change that and make reading fun for them. Most of our books are old. Students are constantly bring me books that are torn, missing a page or even the cover. New books will offer students a pleasing visual invitation to reading. Students will be more focused on the content than the missing pages. My kids can have a snack while they travel with Alice through Wonderland or ride the Polar Express. Rewards are given to students that meet their AR goal each week. Reading can give them a break from their daily troubles, a break some of them desperately need.
