As an avid bookworm myself, I am always looking for ways to encourage a love of literature in my students. Most of my day is spent teaching students how to read: how to decode words, use context clues, make predictions and inferences, and ask and answer questions about what they've read. One thing that is sometimes forgotten, is that children love to be read TO. With these picture books, I will read aloud to my students daily. It will be a time of peace, exploration, and imagination. These are stories that my students need to hear, to be inspired by, to relate to, and to open their eyes to other walks of life. I chose these picture books specifically for my population of students, and there is no doubt that these thought-provoking books will lead to important discussions after they are read.
