My students spend the vast majority of their day with high levels of support. While this level of support is necessary for growth and student success, it can also lead to dependence upon that support. We want our students to have all the support they need, we also want them to know what it feels like to complete tasks independently. Structured work systems foster independence, build confidence, and help students to practice meaningful skills. The follow-the-dot materials will allow our emerging writers to interact with the same word-work as their peers during writing centers. The early language activity boxes will provide students practice with vocabulary, comparing, and sorting. The pattern nuts will help students to practice their fine motor skills, while also practicing their pattern-making skills. See-inside counting tubes will support 1:1 correspondence. The tweezer tongs and scooper scissors will also allow students to practice their fine motor skills with themed teacher-made work and sensory boxes.
