The SOS Explorer software I am attempting to purchase requires an updated laptop and high def screen to run on. The SOS Explorer is a software program produced by the NOAA. This software provides over 140 overlays that cover various geologic and environmental phenomena such as atmospheric storms, climate change, and ocean temperature changes. Some of these data sets are real-time and will help to capture students' curiosity. My goal is to use this software to teach abstract geologic and environmental concepts using real-time data. Lessons can be designed to promote student engagement that allows them to model complex events. Animated images of atmospheric storms, climate change, ocean temperature, real-time earthquakes, and plate tectonic motions can be shown on the sphere, which is used to explain what are sometimes complex environmental processes, in a way that is simultaneously intuitive and captivating. Laptop and Screen will also be used for an already existing wifi-enabled microscope camera, bringing microscopic images to life!
