My students need to find the mass of objects to explore density and forces using real data. We explore cells and crystals that can not be seen with the human eye. The students will use chemicals to explore exothermic and endothermic reactions. My students will be successful if their basic lab safety equipment and data collecting equipment is available to them. Triple beam balances, microscopes, heating and temperature devices will allow students to collect their own data. Gloves, goggles, eye wash stations and fire blankets will ensure safety during their explorations. All students learn more by doing than watching! The additional positive outcome of funding this project is that it will provide my students with a competitive edge and access to critical STEM careers. They will have knowledge of safety protocols and the tools needed in the workplace. I am sure that any employer would be more willing to hire someone that proclaimed, "Yes, I have used a compound microscope successfully," rather than, "Yes, my teacher showed me a picture of a microscope."
