Independent reading and making time to find high-interest books is the foundation for building on reading skills. When students know how to find a "good fit book", they need a library with a variety of books to help them kick back and read. Students will be eager to dive into this classroom library and get their hands on a great book! I also want to use our library as a source that is filled with author mentors. Great readers make great writers and being able to learn from a variety of authors will help us work on improving our own writing craft! When we study a specific authors we can begin to understand what makes them unique and what techniques in their writing make their work shine. While doing so, my young writers are spending time reading and that is a beautiful thing!
