As our school opens its options for science courses on paper, I am tasked with creating student-driven and enduring science experiences in practice. The fulfillment of this project would provide AP Environmental Science lab supplies expected to last 8+ years and Anatomy specimens for the next 4 sections of the course. These needs have arisen simultaneously with the need for updated textbooks for many of the science courses, including the new electives, which has lowered the perceived priority of these learning materials. I believe each of my students deserves the same access to science materials and courses as their peers at other larger and better-funded schools. These materials will help me foster a learning environment in which students feel supported, encouraged to take risks, and challenged to learn from failure as they work with hands-on activities to reinforce content. I hope to sew the seeds of a lasting love for learning in my students as we take on this new challenge together.
