As a gifted education teacher, my top priority is addressing the social-emotional needs of my students. Beginning in November, we began exploring the human brain: its structures and their functions. The students researched the nervous system and how the senses receive information. The students built models of neurons and explained how neural pathways are created. Helping students understand how their brains work reduces anxiety and improves mental health. My precious students researched and studied for months in preparation for our culminating activity: dissecting a sheep's brain. I had planned for students to work with a partner for this activity, and ordered materials accordingly. Unfortunately, our school was closed before we completed this activity. I am happy to lead the dissection virtually but I need more brains! Each student will need their own brain to dissect at home.
