Magazines are a great source for current events. Having new materials delivered every month will keep kids interested in the world around them. For some students, the task of reading a book from cover to cover is daunting. Magazines can bridge that chasm and help create a positive attitude towards reading. Adding magazines to our library will expand reading and literacy throughout the entire school. They are great for teaching all the elements of nonfiction reading, and are also high interest with colorful and current photography. Magazines are a great source for report writing, especially with young kids just learning the research process. Magazines give more choice in reading options, especially to fill short snippets of time. They encourage shared reading with puzzles, crafts, poems, games, you name it! Any literature that promotes social interaction is a plus!
