During this school year, I am going to try something new with my students. We are going to delve into the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services Junior Duck Stamp curriculum and enter their art contest. Through the activities in the Junior Duck Stamp curriculum, students will learn about the conservation of wetlands and waterfowl. Students will be outside learning how to observe the natural world and gather data. In addition, I am applying for grants to take students on a field trip to the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and to the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This will be an intensive unit for students as they learn about science through hands-on experiences in outdoor spaces and express what they have learned through their art. I am excited for this opportunity to see the creativity my students have to share with others. I can't wait to see how they portray messages of conservation through their artwork. However, my students will not be able to do the artwork without art supplies. For this project, I am asking for a variety of art supplies so that students can experiment with and choose the best media for their projects.
