I am so lucky to be teaching 42 wonderful 1st graders this year. (divided by 2 homerooms.) Some of them have the wiggles very often, and it distracts them from learning to their fullest potential. Flexible seating gives students the ability to move around the room to be more comfortable, empowers them with choice, and stimulates the sense of touch for those who need it. Incorporating flexible seating allows my students to have a choice in their learning. My traditional seating does not accommodate some of my students' needs. This will also allow the students to have more space in the classroom to engage in activities and work along side their peers. Flexible seating gives students the ability to move around the room to be more comfortable, empowers them with choice, and stimulates the sense of touch for those who need it.
