Sensory options allow students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During classroom work times, students are provided (based on teacher and occupational therapist recommendations) sensory items that work best for them. Currently, my students are struggling to regulate themselves, control their behaviors, and learn at their optimal best. Sensory integration items and a sensory room will engage students in their work and ensure less disruption of their peers. The products I have selected will help my students by giving them sensory options to regulate their young systems. Currently, many of my students, including those on the autism spectrum, are not able to regulate their behavioral and emotional states. Fidget toys, therapy putty, and chew options assist students with ADD/ADHD. Wiggle cushions, weighted vests, and weighted blankets help individuals remain in their seats during instruction and carpet times. Body socks assist students in behavioral regulation during circle time and reading opportunities. The noise-canceling earmuffs enable students to remain in music class, physical education class, and other areas where noise may escalate when individuals are not able to tolerate loud noises. The bubble tower, sensory swing, trampoline, crash mat, light projector, and pea-pod are more intense sensory items to assist those individuals on the spectrum as well as those who have reached a peak behavioral level and must leave the classroom environment for a period of time.
