Recently, our district took on a new reading and writing curriculum and a major component to effectively implement these is a common meeting area for students. During “rug time” is when students will be instructed, actively engaged, and have opportunities to share their learning. It’s important to me to provide a common area for my students that is free of distractions, organized, and easily accessible. A classroom rug with square seating will provide a consistent and inviting area for the class to meet each day during reading and writing workshop. A common meeting place will also make lessons more effective when working large group, small group, and partners!
