I am requesting bibliotherapy books addressing pressing social and emotional needs at the elementary level. Building a comprehensive social-emotional library will allow me to provide much needed support to students coping with internal and external struggles. In New Orleans, where 39% of children live in poverty, many students are exposed to trauma early in life, which often effects their ability to regulate their emotions and impulses. This social-emotional library will not only serve as a valuable counseling resource, but it will also provide a safe, calm, and trusting space for students to explore, understand, and regulate their emotions. I will utilize this library with individual students, parents, small groups, as well as in whole classroom lessons to address social-emotional and mental health needs. Additionally, books on the list that are related to kindness, empathy, and behavior will help to shape a lasting positive school culture as our school enters its second year of existence.
