Chromebooks in my classroom will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to utilize computers as an invaluable resource used to advance their knowledge through research, share their learning by networking and engage in new forms of creativity. The laptops will allow my students to build websites where they will be able to document their learning on an online portfolio. They will use this website to present their learning to their parents in student led parent teacher conferences and it will be a continuous work in progress as they document their projects throughout their educational career, making the work they did in 3rd grade accessible and relevant to the work they will do in 10th grade. The students will also be able to access endless online resources, curated by me, to help advance their learning and curiosity in a wide variety of subjects. This is perfect for differentiation in my classroom, allowing students to research special interest topics and push beyond the textbook into real world examples where they are learning from experts in the field. These specific Chromebooks I have requested are touch screen and will also provide my designers with the opportunity to experience multi-media and digital arts, through projects involving movie editing or simple animation. Lastly, I will be able to teach my students the value of digital citizenship, a vastly overlooked but incredibly necessary skill children need to safely navigate the internet. It is vital for all students to have equal access to computers and the internet in order to prepare them to be successful in higher education and their future careers. I am committed to continuously seeking these resources for my students and am hopeful I will find support within the DonorsChoose community.
