I am the School Counselor for the Anza Eagles, which means that I help to make sure they are prepared to present their best selves every day in the classroom and at home. Anza Eagles S.O.A.R. – they are Scholars, Outstanding citizens, Accountable, and Respectful. While a primary focus for their school attendance is academic growth, a significant amount of their learning and ability to excel in the classroom is dependent on their social and emotional development. I intent to utilize the tools that I am requesting with all students and more intensely with students and families who have individual needs that require more support. For example, the seats and rugs will allow for comfortable and varied sitting options. The sound machine will help create a calming environment. The games will help student relax, share concerns, and teach them important skills like impulse control, taking turns, problem solving, and being a good sport. The books will provide a fun way to learn and discuss real-life challenges. With the tools I have requested, I will be able to create a safe, fun, and comfortable environment. A comfortable setting to share concerns, a space to escape from stress for a break, a resource to help build skills, tools to stay focused, and activities to learn how to interact with others are pertinent items to supporting students in elementary school. I have requested these items because I am new to the Anza Eagles family and I believe that the items I have requested will help me serve the Anza Eagles. These items will contribute to the counseling program so that students, families, teachers, and community members may learn to S.O.A.R., engage in exciting ventures while S.O.A.R.ing, and teach others to S.O.A.R.
