My school is fortunate to have a visual art program. However, like many elementary schools, music is no longer funded. Research shows that musical education develops the part of the brain responsible for language and reasoning. Additionally, students that learn music put more effort into their other academics. By having regular access to recorders and percussion instruments, students will begin learning the basics of musical training. This education in music will grow their brains and figuratively and literally. Without access to these materials my students will not have the opportunity to develop a love of music that will elevate their academics.
