My students are high school English Language learners. Many feel self-conscious about using English to communicate. I would like to motivate them to practice English by reading children's books to a first grade classroom at the elementary school next door. My students will use a template to ask questions focusing on high school ELL and first grade literature standards. This will give them an opportunity to be a mentor, form new relationships, and practice English skills. We are building a classroom library with children's books that teach life lessons, rhyme, and rhythm. These books will also help the students expand their English vocabulary, as well as reinforce grammar skills.
