By students each having their own copies of the book, they are able to follow along and visualize the text as well as pick up on any unique spelling, wording, or writing in the text. Oil pastels will be used as a culminating project to show their understanding of the major themes of the book as well as connections made through the characters. Giving each student their own book, puts power and critical thinking in their hands. Students will be able to reread chapters as needed, analyze characters more in depth, and examine Lois Lowry's writing style. This will especially help my English learners and students with disabilities. Students will also be exposed to other books with a similar genre and themes in hopes that they find a new book or author they want to learn more about.
