The mission in my classroom is to create independence and success with everyday life skills. We have a classroom bakery called DC Cafe. Each week, students must come up with three different food items to bake, create the order form, and distribute to teachers. Once orders have been placed and supplies have been purchased, they are to bake the items. We had a mini fridge inside of our classroom that held our varying supplies, however, at the end of the school year it decided to stop working. Last year we utilized the oven in the classroom next door, however, this possesses a serious safety concern. The oven is unattended. We had one too many close calls to continue baking in this manner. The counter top convection oven will continue to work on independence, daily living skills with the added safety of being inside our classroom. Gaining a new mini fridge and counter top convection ovens will allow for my students to continue running DC Cafe, continue to gain independence, and continue to work on daily living skills all in a safe manner!
