Students with disabilities and Autism struggle with coping techniques when they are anxious or overstimulated. Providing them with sensory materials, such as water therapy toys and foam blocks, will provide them a framework for calming techniques and coping techniques. I have a separate sensory room that the sensory materials are placed and used as a "cool down" room or a sensory diet room in which the students go into the sensory room and utilize the sensory materials provided and practice calming and coping techniques when anxious or overstimulated. As of right now, my sensory room is quite empty, but with the help of each of you, we can provide the needed resources for my students!
