I have put together various tools and supplies needed for my Kindergarten classroom. I'm in need of an easel to make learning more interactive for my students. One of the reasons I would like the easel is because I have been writing out our morning message on chart paper and I find it very wasteful. With the whiteboard component to the easel I will be able to write out a morning message. This is important in Kindergarten because it models good writing. This messages is read out loud to the student and is the introduction to our day. I have students come up and circle letters or words that we have learned, point out errors or punctuation marks, etc. With the use of an easel, I will also be able to display my large reading books for shared reading. Shared reading is a interactive reading experience when the teacher explicitly models the skills of proficient readers, including reading with fluency and expression. Its a time that allows students to also join in on the reading. Having the book propped up will allow for a more interactive experience.
