Dr. Marcia Tate provides research and brain based teaching techniques. Some of the teaching strategies that takes advantage of how the brain learns best are using music, discussion, and movement. Music not only increases memory and processing, but also can help set the mood in a classroom, which is very important to get high school students engaged. I plan to use all genres of music within my classroom and instruction to set mood, and aid in discussions of author, view, purpose, and role playing. Using metaphors, analogies, and simile's is also another research proven strategy that takes advantage of how the brain learns best. With research-based studies, and my student's interest as a guide, I believe that bringing the object: A record player, and records in the classroom will hook their interest due to its novelty, and be an essential part of their learning and motivation.
