We come from a very community oriented academic institution which like many have been greatly impacted by New Jersey's financial crisis. My students range in mid to low socioeconomic status, are all different learners and individuals. I have a few students who receive free lunches and also have parents who have lost their jobs during this difficult economic time. I have other parents who are working multiple jobs in order to make ends meet, which means that school is the only time that their child's educational needs are met. This budget crisis has made it difficult to purchase all of the things necessary to reach every student in my class. The one thing they all seem to have in common is that they all seem to be in love with books. They love to read, listen and write stories. I am so excited to embrace their enthusiasm as their teacher. I actually have a difficult time getting them out of the reading center!
