Often we teach carrying capacity by giving students a data set, ask them to graph it and then analyze it. Imagine the impact of watching an algal bloom grow, reach it's carrying capacity and seeing the aftermath. Instead of hearing what seems to be the teenage mantra about not learning anything in school today, help a student relay what they learned in class and how it applies to real issues of today. This is so much more engaging than just a graph of printed values! Help me have an additional way to engage my students by having them grow algal blooms, measure their growth before, during and after they hit carrying capacity.
