As a first year teacher, my library is small. With multiple copies of these books as well as other supplies, my students will be able to engage in book talks and reading responses around books that reflect their lived experiences. Not only will the books captivate their attention, they will serve as mentor texts for the students writing. These books will also inspire and ignite the spark of activism that lives in each of my students. Many of the books encourage readers to reclaim their story and tell the world who they are on their terms. As readers and writers, this is essential to developing their literacy skills.

About my class
