Recently, we’ve moved to departmentalization and I teach math, as well as science and social studies. In our math class, specifically, we use a workshop model in which I get to work with small groups. I’ve tried a few different types of stools, but none have fit the bill. Even fifth graders need to wiggle! It’s hard to be engaged in a lesson when you’re feeling fidgety and uncomfortable, no matter your age. These stools will provide an alternative seating option for some amazing kiddos. I already have a few flexible seating options throughout the classroom, such as cushions and "comfy chairs," as the students call them, but my small group area is totally lacking. That's where I need them to focus the most! Allowing these students to fidget safely, without their chairs tipping or the worry of falling (no one has yet, thankfully!), will help enhance our small group lessons, allowing the students to focus more fully.
