Flexible seating in the classroom allows students to determine work environments and options that are best for them. A lot of work in my classroom will be done through rotations, giving students the opportunity to work independently, with a teacher, and with other students. By providing flexible seating, I'm inviting students to pick an option that works best for them while learning how to be responsible for the seating options and use them appropriately. Students will have joint responsibility for the seating, ensuring that both they and others are using the seating appropriately. This collective responsibility is important to creating a cohesive classroom community in which we all work together. I believe that these flexible seating options will invite students to learn lessons in individual and collective responsibility, social-emotional support, and academic support.
