Sometimes it's hard to keep teenagers engaged in the classroom. Some kids have a naturally strong desire to learn and love to interact with their classmates, while others prefer to sit back and let others get all of the attention. When I was in school, I was one of those shy kids who sat in the corner and hoped that I wouldn't be called on to talk. As a teacher, it's hard to make sure everyone gets a chance to participate when some personalities in the room seem to command so much attention and others want to go unnoticed. Nearpod makes it possible to engage all of my students, even the shy ones who don't necessarily want to talk in class, by creating interactive lessons so that everyone is encouraged to participate. Students can share their thoughts and ideas and answer prompts in writing, as well as respond to polls and quizzes that allow me to gauge mastery quickly and reteach when needed. The feedback I received last year from my students about Nearpod was extremely positive, and my students were overall more eager to participate and learn. Unfortunately, my district can't afford the thousands of dollars it would cost to buy a license for Nearpod, and they won't pay the fee for individual teachers. This was such a positive learning tool and I would like to continue to use it, but the cost is a little more than I can really pay.
