The materials in this project will allow me to provide my students with novels that are actually of interest to them. In my years as an educator, I have noticed that student engagement (as well as overall test scores) suffer tremendously when students are not enjoying that material that they must read. As a Reading teacher, I feel that it is imperative to present students with vast assortment of novels in which to engage because the overall student success rate increases as the level of reading/comprehension increases! Furthermore, if we hope to encourage our students to take up an interest in reading, we must meet them where they are. In this age of social media and electronics for every facet of life, educators must make it a point to utilize elements that students use outside of the classroom if they ever hope to truly make an impact.
