The other English teachers and myself have agreed, for the first time, to build a unified front against illiteracy and low interest in reading. We are working with each other to start a reading campaign from day 1 to give students access to high quality books in a variety of genres and reading levels to promote a culture of reading, stories, and literature. Students need to feel like they belong to the world, and reading is a way to access a world many of these students never knew they had access to because of their background. We hope to give them a way towards the larger world, and a love of literature.

About my class
