Being in first-grade, students are now learning how to "shop" in the library for a book that is at their level. Teaching this skill will be useful to them as they move through their educational journey. With the digital age comes the loss of the art of choosing the right book that will not be too difficult or too easy. I am striving to instill a love of reading for my students. I would also like to give my students the ability to practice their new skills of decoding words and reading independently. By giving them this gift, they can feel proud of themselves for reading a story on their own without being given the words and truly feel accomplished.
