In kindergarten, our main goal is supporting these students in developing their independence as learners. In my classroom, I have worked to create an environment for the students where they can learn through the exploration of materials. In math, for example, we have blocks, Legos, counting cubes, and a variety of games. For reading, we have a developed library but I am looking to get materials, that paired with our library, will help the students build their reading confidence. Resources like whisper phones and flexible seating help students feel comfortable reading and practicing words and sounds they may not know. I want to make reading time in our classroom a kindergarten favorite. With the materials from this DonorsChoose project, our kindergarten classroom will work on building our independent reading and problem-solving skills. Skills that transfer from kindergarten throughout the rest of life.
