Due to COVID 19 restrictions, my students are in their seats for almost the entire school day, including lunch and indoor recess. My students have unique needs and a wide range of disabilities, and they require movement breaks throughout their day. Sitting in a hard chair for close to 7 hours a day is beyond difficult for them, and it decreases their engagement, as well as causes behaviors. By providing my students with flexible seating (the balls and wobble chair), my students will be able to "wiggle" and move in their seats as needed to increase engagement and promote positive behaviors. By providing my students with personal fidgets and movement break activities (floor tiles, floor letters, sensory materials), my students will have more opportunities to take turns getting out of their seat and using these materials to promote productive breaks and movement. Due to COVID 19, the sensory room in our school is not available at this time. These materials will help supplement the activities that my students are used to and require in order to have success. In addition, all of the items on our list can be wiped and sanitized easily due to COVID 19 regulations.
