I need these computers to cultivate the minds of third graders in Washington, DC. As a third grade educator in Washington, DC for the past four years, I have utilized blending learning as a component to boost student achievement. Through blending learning students can achieve higher test scores and become more educationally equipped. As a student in Washington, DC students are at a greater risk of not completing a K-12 education. If granted this award, I will be giving students at DC Prep, not only the tools to succeed but giving them a chance to have the same educational tools that other counterparts throughout the nation have as well. My goal is for students to utilize this award to increase student achievement, become more equipped for standardized testing, and embody the feel of high-quality education. According to the Washington Post, "Half of the District’s lowest-performing schools are east of the Anacostia River, according to a rating system unveiled Friday that assigns the city’s schools one to five stars. Five of the 10 D.C. public schools — traditional or charter — in the bottom 5 percent of ratings are in Ward 8, according to data released by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (Truong, 2018)." My students live in this community and look at the research behind the type of education that they are receiving. I humbly ask that you find it in your heart to award and fund this project for us to serve the kids of the ward 8 community of the District.
