The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom when checking for understanding after direct instruction. Therefore, it is essential to have dry erase markers within the classroom due to their frequent use and need to be replaced. The holders for the pens/pencils is due to the fact that I am transitioning to a modified version of a flexible classroom design model where students are in tables instead of desks and where the pencils/pens will be held along with the pencil sharpeners to limit movements as far as students getting up to sharpen their pencils. The pencils are for when students don't have one available for class. I want my students to become true examiners of history and how they as global citizens can affect the world of tomorrow by the actions they they today. Materials such as crayons and colored pencils will be used for hands on learning through the completion of projects. For example, students would be responsible for researching a Greek god of goddess of their choice and presenting their information on poster board where students could draw a symbol of that god or goddess. In addition, students would complete on the 1st day of school an activity based on Peter H. Reynolds "The Dot" in which students would draw a visual response to this prompt: "I want to be.."
