Most of my students do not travel outside their community. Reading can bring the world to them. Writing about what they read in various forms such as poetry and stories helps with understanding and gives the student a chance to be creative. For some students drawing and writing is a way to express themselves in a way they are unable to do verbally. Having art supplies such as drawing paper, colored pencils, canvases and paint can give them this opportunity. Students can also write about their art to express why and how the art pertains to their reading. Students will able to work in cooperative groups, pairs or independently. This project can also support those students with social-emotional needs as a way to express their personal feelings.
