Students can celebrate their differences and similarities through valuable reading through picture books. These read alouds invite students to engage in conversations about life and to question the world in which they live in. Reading inclusive and diverse books help to set a positive tone in the classroom by simply reading a book aloud and allowing the students to explore topics relevant to their lives. They can compare and contrast their lives to the main characters and discuss similarities and differences. Read aloud topics include being accepted, being you, accepting differences, working hard, women's history, diversity, and self-confidence.
