While my classroom currently has an array of drawing utensils, it is lacking paint, paintbrushes, canvases, and adhesives to hold heavier materials to surfaces. Mod Podge, for example, can be used in so many different ways, including transforming an opaque image into a gel-like picture. By introducing adhesives with classical art techniques such as painting and drawing, I'd like to teach students that any item can become a work of art. Mixed media uses several different artistic techniques, but often includes textured artifacts ranging from fabric, old skeleton keys, buttons, seashells, and old earrings. The list could go on and on!
