My project is to show my students another view of the world. Like many teachers I teach in an urban school, unlike many teachers I live in the same community of where I teach, My opening statement when describing my students was a conversation about experiences, and family dynamics. To hear that one of my babies collects coupons in order to go to Chick-fi-la one day and another walking to a gas station for food or for simply something to do showed me their realty. I grew up in the same city I now teach. I know what its like to want and wish and hope that one day I'll get to do something, or simply taste something. As I got older I didn't expect much and often forgot my dreams. I don't want my students forgetting their dreams. I believe what the scripture says about writing a vision. With the supplies I listed my students will be illustrating their vision. They will illustrate their immediate vision "going to Chik-fi-la" or on a school trip, along with their future vision as an adult. They are drawing pictures or visual representations of the life the want to see vs. the life the currently see. My goal is to fulfill their immediate visions this school year as a reminder that in life some dreams come true and to instill hope in them that whatever the goal draw the reality you want to see and take the steps necessary to make it possible. Lastly, our city is doing murals on old buildings. My ultimate goal is to have local artist take their vision papers (and dedicate a mural to them).
