Art is the best part of the week for many of my students. It is their chance to be their own creative selves. Part of the experience is trying new and different ways of expressing themselves. New techniques also have a problem solving element that lets students engage in a hands on experience that has more than one way of being done successfully. The items in my cart are used in a printmaking technique called mono-printing. Mono-printing is a quick, fresh approach to printing that comes with many challenges. Students apply ink to a printing plate, create a drawing in the ink, and pull a print from the completed plate. They need to think of how positive and negative spaces will work together. They also need to keep the drawing simple, yet add enough detail and contrast to keep it visually interesting. It is a technique that presents new challenges each time it is attempted.
