Our 5th and 6th grade students will be engaged in outdoor environmental science activities over three days and two nights. They will examine the power of water as it is related to weathering, erosion, and deposition. Through archery, they will experience laws of motion focused on potential/kinetic forces. Our students will take an ecology hike discussing flora and environments. They will look for adaptations and the impact of invasive species. Students look at differences in local birds and discover how those differences allow them to thrive in their environment. Archery allows students to experiment with forces in a way that involves some competition. During another activity, students have the opportunity to build on their plan to prevent soil erosion and make adjustments to find a more effective solution. Team building and personal growth through challenges are also key to educating the heart and mind. They enjoy encouraging each other as they experience the zip line and human swing. While one activity relies more on personal goals, the other requires teamwork to complete successfully. Canoeing requires communication between boat mates while experiencing inertia, friction, and motion.
