The use of binders is a daily activity in my school. Using one binder to organize class materials reduces a significant barrier to success. The binders allow students to keep track of their work, as well as provide a natural place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a challenge is the fact that the binders break down quickly due to everyday use. When binder rings break or seams tear, my students do their best to repair the broken parts. However, binders eventually break beyond repair. Even though students are great about taking care of their binders, when binders break beyond repair, the lack of a functioning binder is a barrier to their success. By having a ready supply of replacement binders, my students will have one less barrier to their academic success. By donating to my project, you will not only reduce barriers to student success, but you also increase student engagement and confidence. Nothing shuts down student engagement faster in a class than a lost assignment. Moreover, you will spare low-income students the financial stress of replacing their single most expensive item on the school supply list. Students will be able to focus on their academics and not worry about how to organize their materials. Plus in this technology-focused world, any interaction with the physical act of paper organization will provide a hands-on approach to keeping track of relevant documents.
