In Kindergarten, we spend a lot of time on the floor. In order to make this both comfortable and functional, a classroom rug/carpet works wonderful. I have never had one, but many teachers have expressed how well it works for them. The one I chose is divided, so each student will have a designated spot that gives them room and aids in keeping them focused on their learning. Students will sit here for morning meeting, calendar time, whole group reading time and phonics time. They will also have access to the carpet during indoor recess. Our school has tile floors and carpets add a feeling of comfort and home. It helps the room to feel less like a hospital or business room. Students learning needs to be as diverse as they are. I will use the alphabet tubs to ensure those students that need a visual, or more tactile learning will have access. Some Kindergarten students have little vocabulary and they can use the items in each bin to gain vocabulary skills as well as the letter/sound skills that are essential foundations to all reading skills. I could go on and on about these tubs because Kindergarten students will think these are "toys" and not learning "tools"!
