We use several web-based programs and activities to allow for maximum differentiation in learning. These programs are research based and use best practices to reach all students. The programs we are using require a lap top rather than an iPad since they incorporate Adobe Flash. The Lenovo ThinkPad is compact and easy to use at their desk or station and the programs run well on it. The main focus of the programs is on learning to listen to, read, write and speak English. These reading programs are self-paced and adaptive, allowing students to repeat lessons until they master the concepts. The lessons are supported by classroom instruction and practice. Monitoring progress takes place both visually, as students work, and through data derived from each of the programs. Students are highly motivated because of the immediate feedback, engaging visual images and entertaining activities provided by using web-based content on the ThinkPad.
