Differentiation is key when working with a class of 25 second graders. I will introduce my students to high interest topics, we will read together for increased fluency and discuss various comprehension strategies and standards. Then, I will offer students the opportunity to dig deeper, into the main idea, with individualized projects and book reports. Allowing each student to have a copy of the literature study book, will create an independent learning environment while studying penguins and the American Revolution as a whole group. The supplemental picture books will provide extended facts and background knowledge of the science and social studies topics.
