First grade readers glow with pride when they read a book cover-to-cover by themselves. With excitement and inspiration in their eyes, they search our classroom library for another book to get lost in. With book boxes filled to brim with their own reading selections, they go off to their reading spot where they are transforming themselves into a lifelong reader. Book selection is an empowering experience for young readers. These materials will expand my classroom library in which students access daily making for a wider selection of reading materials for them to choose from at their independent reading level. Books will also be used as class read alouds to spark student interest in book series, study characters, and to enjoy in the process of becoming readers together.
