My goal as a music teacher is to give my students access to an equitable and excellent music education - and that all starts with the materials and instruments that they have access and exposure to in the classroom. Currently, our music room lacks a functioning keyboard/piano, a vital instrument in a choral and general music classroom, especially one serving 491 of the students in the school, approximately 60% of the school's population. Having a full-size weighted keyboard in our music classroom will better enable students to play and share out music to the class, allow for students to dance and sing to more music, and allow for the choirs to be accompanied. Adding a keyboard to our music program will impact all of my students, kindergarten through twelfth grade. Playing the keyboard and utilizing it as a tool in lessons will help students learn about and understand the elements of music, especially melody, meter, harmony, and medium. Music brings great joy to my students, pushes them out of their comfort zones, and helps them grow in their overall development. Please consider helping my students dance, play, sing, and grow together.
